Backend Developer Job Description

About the role

Our team is hiring a Backend Developer to design and build the services and APIs that keep our product running. You will model data, write reliable business logic, and make sure our systems scale securely under load. This role is a fit for someone who enjoys clean architecture, thinks carefully about edge cases, and takes ownership of the systems they build.

Key responsibilities

• Design and build scalable APIs and backend services
• Model data and manage database performance and integrity
• Ensure system reliability, security, and observability

Responsibilities

• Design and build REST or GraphQL APIs with clear contracts and versioning
• Model relational and non-relational data schemas for new features
• Write and optimize database queries, indexes, and migrations
• Implement authentication, authorization, and data-security best practices
• Build background jobs, queues, and scheduled tasks for async workloads
• Add logging, metrics, and tracing to make services observable in production
• Debug and resolve backend incidents, then add safeguards against recurrence
• Design for scale with caching, load handling, and horizontal scaling in mind
• Write unit and integration tests covering business logic and edge cases
• Document API endpoints, data models, and service dependencies for the team

Requirements

• 2 or more years building backend services and APIs in production
• Strong proficiency in a server-side language such as Python, Java, Go, or Node.js
• Solid experience with relational databases and query optimization
• Understanding of API design, authentication, and security fundamentals
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent practical experience
