REQUEST PROCESS & SCHEDULING
- Employees shall request work from home days through the Organization's time management system with at least 48 hours' notice, subject to manager approval.
- The maximum number of work from home days shall be determined by the employee's department and role, typically not exceeding 2 days per week unless otherwise approved.
- Managers shall ensure adequate team coverage on all working days and may decline work from home requests when on-site attendance is required for meetings, events, or operational needs.

EXPECTATIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

Everything you need to know

01What Is a Work From Home Policy?

A work from home policy defines how employees carry out their duties from their residence, either regularly or occasionally. It sets expectations for availability, communication, equipment, and data protection, and explains how requests are approved. While similar to a broader remote working policy, it often focuses on home-based arrangements specifically, giving employees clear guidance on how to stay productive and connected while working from home.

02Why Companies Need a Work From Home Policy

Home working offers flexibility and can improve retention and focus, but ambiguity leads to problems: unclear hours, security risks, and uneven treatment. A written policy clarifies when and how home working is allowed, what employees are responsible for, and how performance is judged. It also helps you meet legal duties around working time, expenses, and health and safety for a home-based workspace.

03What a Work From Home Policy Should Include

Explain who is eligible and how to request home working, whether ad hoc or scheduled. Set core hours, response expectations, and preferred communication channels. Detail equipment and any expense support, plus data security requirements for home devices and networks. Address a safe, ergonomic workspace, how output is measured, and grounds for revising or ending the arrangement. Reference confidentiality obligations that apply the same as in the office.
