What it measures

3 dimensions, scored separately

Structure

This measures how well a candidate organises a presentation so the audience can follow it from start to finish. It matters because clear structure helps people understand the message, remember the main points and know what action to take.

Audience adaptation

This measures whether a candidate can adjust content, tone and level of detail for different audiences. It matters because the same topic needs a different approach when speaking to senior leaders, peers or frontline staff.

Handling questions

This measures how well a candidate responds to audience questions, objections or requests for clarification. It matters because presentations often succeed or fail in the discussion that follows, not just in the prepared content.

Everything about the Presentation Skills Test

01What is the Presentation Skills Test?

This test measures practical presentation judgement in common workplace scenarios. Candidates respond to short situations about opening a presentation, organising key points, adapting content for different audiences and handling questions without losing clarity. The focus is not on slide design or public speaking style, but on the choices people make when they need to explain information clearly and keep an audience with them. Questions are drawn from a larger bank, so candidates receive a varied set of scenarios. On Springhire, employers can use the results to compare candidates on three areas that affect day-to-day communication at work: structure, audience adaptation and handling questions.

02How does the Presentation Skills Test work?

Candidates answer 20 situational judgement questions in 10 minutes. The test is set at an intermediate level and is auto-scored. Questions are drawn randomly from a 60-question bank, so each candidate sees a different mix of presentation scenarios while being measured on the same core skills.

03Why is the Presentation Skills Test important to employers?

Many candidates interview well but struggle to present updates, explain changes or answer questions clearly once hired. This test helps reduce that risk by showing whether someone can organise a message, shape it for the audience and respond calmly when challenged, before you move them forward.

How to interpret Presentation Skills Test results

Every candidate report scores each dimension separately. Here is what high and lower scores typically look like at work, and how to use them in your hiring decision.

Lower scorers: A low score suggests the candidate may present information in a scattered way or miss the most important message.

Audience adaptation

High scorers: A high score suggests the candidate can tailor content to what a specific audience needs to know and act on.

Lower scorers: A low score suggests the candidate may use the same message for every audience, regardless of context or needs.

Handling questions

High scorers: A high score suggests the candidate can address questions directly, stay composed and keep the discussion useful.

Lower scorers: A low score suggests the candidate may become unclear, defensive or sidetracked when challenged by questions.
