HR Glossary
What is Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA)?
A federal law enacted in 1967 that prohibits employment discrimination against individuals aged 40 and older in hiring, firing, promotions, compensation, and other terms and conditions of employment, enforced by the EEOC.
Why it matters in hiring
Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) comes up whenever teams compare candidates, set policy or report on people data. Getting the definition right keeps decisions consistent, which is the same reason springhire scores every applicant against the same criteria rather than on impression.
