HR Glossary
What is Allowance?
A regular supplementary payment made by an employer to an employee for specific expenses such as housing, travel, meals, or clothing, typically provided as a fixed recurring amount in addition to base salary.
Why it matters in hiring
Allowance comes up whenever teams compare candidates, set policy or report on people data. Getting the definition right keeps decisions consistent, which is the same reason springhire scores every applicant against the same criteria rather than on impression.
