What is Anchoring Bias?

A cognitive bias where the first piece of information encountered (the anchor) disproportionately influences subsequent judgments and decisions, even when the anchor is arbitrary or irrelevant to the decision at hand.

Why it matters in hiring

Anchoring Bias comes up whenever teams compare candidates, set policy or report on people data. Getting the definition right keeps decisions consistent, which is the same reason springhire scores every applicant against the same criteria rather than on impression.
