What is Contingent Workforce?

The segment of a company's labor pool that isn't made up of permanent, full-time employees, including temporary workers, independent contractors, freelancers, consultants, gig workers, and other non-employee labor engaged on a project or time-limited basis.

Why it matters in hiring

Contingent Workforce comes up whenever teams compare candidates, set policy or report on people data. Getting the definition right keeps decisions consistent, which is the same reason springhire scores every applicant against the same criteria rather than on impression.
