What is Cost Per Hire?

Cost Per Hire (CPH) is the total internal and external recruiting spend divided by the number of hires in a given period, following the SHRM/ANSI standard formula.

Why it matters in hiring

Cost Per Hire comes up whenever teams compare candidates, set policy or report on people data. Getting the definition right keeps decisions consistent, which is the same reason springhire scores every applicant against the same criteria rather than on impression.
