HR Glossary
What is Demotion?
A move to a lower-level position within an organization, typically involving reduced responsibilities, authority, and sometimes compensation, either as a performance consequence or a voluntary career adjustment.
Why it matters in hiring
Demotion comes up whenever teams compare candidates, set policy or report on people data. Getting the definition right keeps decisions consistent, which is the same reason springhire scores every applicant against the same criteria rather than on impression.
