A federal law enacted in 1993 that entitles eligible employees of covered employers to take up to 12 weeks of unpaid, job-protected leave per year for qualifying family and medical reasons, with continuation of group health insurance coverage.
Why it matters in hiring
Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) comes up whenever teams compare candidates, set policy or report on people data. Getting the definition right keeps decisions consistent, which is the same reason springhire scores every applicant against the same criteria rather than on impression.
