HR Glossary
What is HIPAA?
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996, a federal law that protects the privacy and security of individually identifiable health information and gives employees the right to continue health coverage when changing jobs.
Why it matters in hiring
HIPAA comes up whenever teams compare candidates, set policy or report on people data. Getting the definition right keeps decisions consistent, which is the same reason springhire scores every applicant against the same criteria rather than on impression.
