HR Glossary
What is Management by Objectives (MBO)?
A goal-setting approach where manager and employee jointly define specific, measurable objectives for a performance period, with results evaluated against those agreed-upon targets to determine ratings, bonuses, and development priorities.
Why it matters in hiring
Management by Objectives (MBO) comes up whenever teams compare candidates, set policy or report on people data. Getting the definition right keeps decisions consistent, which is the same reason springhire scores every applicant against the same criteria rather than on impression.
