HR Glossary
What is Merit Increase?
A salary raise awarded to an employee based on their individual performance and contribution rather than tenure, inflation adjustments, or across-the-board increases.
Why it matters in hiring
Merit Increase comes up whenever teams compare candidates, set policy or report on people data. Getting the definition right keeps decisions consistent, which is the same reason springhire scores every applicant against the same criteria rather than on impression.
