HR Glossary
What is Positive Discrimination?
The practice of treating a person more favorably in recruitment or employment specifically because they possess a protected characteristic, which is generally unlawful in the UK under the Equality Act 2010, with very limited exceptions.
Why it matters in hiring
Positive Discrimination comes up whenever teams compare candidates, set policy or report on people data. Getting the definition right keeps decisions consistent, which is the same reason springhire scores every applicant against the same criteria rather than on impression.
