HR Glossary
What is Sponsorship?
An active, advocacy-based relationship where a senior leader uses their influence, political capital, and visibility to champion a high-potential employee's career advancement, going beyond mentoring advice to take concrete action on the employee's behalf.
Why it matters in hiring
Sponsorship comes up whenever teams compare candidates, set policy or report on people data. Getting the definition right keeps decisions consistent, which is the same reason springhire scores every applicant against the same criteria rather than on impression.
