HR Glossary
What is Stipend?
A fixed regular allowance paid by an employer for specific purposes such as remote work expenses, professional development, wellness, or commuting, distinct from salary in that it's typically a set amount rather than compensation for hours worked.
Why it matters in hiring
Stipend comes up whenever teams compare candidates, set policy or report on people data. Getting the definition right keeps decisions consistent, which is the same reason springhire scores every applicant against the same criteria rather than on impression.
