HR Glossary
What is Verbal Warning?
The first formal step in a disciplinary process where a manager notifies an employee that their conduct or performance is unacceptable and must improve, typically documented in writing despite the name.
Why it matters in hiring
Verbal Warning comes up whenever teams compare candidates, set policy or report on people data. Getting the definition right keeps decisions consistent, which is the same reason springhire scores every applicant against the same criteria rather than on impression.
