Everything about the Leadership & People Management Test
01What is the Leadership & People Management Test?
Situational judgment tests present candidates with realistic workplace dilemmas and ask them to choose the best response. Decades of selection research show they predict managerial performance better than self-description questionnaires, because they measure judgment rather than self-image. This test covers four capabilities every people manager needs: delegation and empowerment, coaching and feedback, decision-making and prioritization, and team dynamics and motivation. Scenarios include underperformers, flight-risk stars, conflicting priorities, remote teams, and cross-team conflict. Best answers reflect modern management practice: clarity, ownership, and coaching over blame.
02How does the Leadership & People Management Test work?
Candidates read 24 short management scenarios, six per dimension, and pick the response they would take from four options. The strongest response scores 2 points, an acceptable response scores 1, and counterproductive responses score 0. Each dimension is scored out of 12 and the overall score out of 48, with developing, solid, and strong bands per dimension.
03Why is the Leadership & People Management Test important to employers?
Most management hires fail on people skills, not domain skills, and those skills are exactly what interviews struggle to observe. Scenario-based scores give you evidence of how a candidate handles delegation, feedback, trade-offs, and team friction before you hand them a team. Use the results to shortlist and to target interview questions at the weakest dimension.
How to interpret Leadership & People Management Test results
Every candidate report scores each dimension separately. Here is what high and lower scores typically look like at work, and how to use them in your hiring decision.
Delegation & empowerment
High scorers: Hands off meaningful work with clear ownership and the right level of support. Grows people through stretch assignments while staying accountable, and scales their impact instead of becoming the bottleneck.
Lower scorers: Currently tends to hold onto work or over-direct it. With coaching on structured handoffs, milestone check-ins, and tolerating different working styles, delegation is one of the fastest management skills to build.
Coaching & feedback
High scorers: Gives timely, specific, honest feedback and treats development as part of the job. Handles difficult conversations directly, addresses problems early, and helps people see their gaps without demoralizing them.
Lower scorers: May currently soften, delay, or skip hard feedback conversations. Practicing simple frameworks, such as describing observed behavior and its impact, plus regular one-on-ones, builds this skill quickly.
Decision-making & prioritization
High scorers: Weighs trade-offs quickly, sequences competing demands against clear goals, and commits with incomplete information. Communicates the reasoning behind decisions so stakeholders and the team stay aligned.
Lower scorers: May currently hesitate on trade-offs, try to satisfy every stakeholder, or defer decisions upward. Explicit prioritization frameworks and small decisions with visible reasoning build confidence rapidly.
Team dynamics & motivation
High scorers: Reads team morale accurately and acts early on friction. Addresses conflict directly but fairly, communicates honestly in uncertainty, and keeps individuals connected to purpose and recognition.
Lower scorers: Currently focuses more on tasks than on team signals, so friction or disengagement may build unnoticed. Regular listening one-on-ones and early, neutral conflict conversations develop this dimension well.
