Everything about the Taxation Test
This test is one part of screening every applicant from one link: add a one-way video interview and resume scoring, and compare candidates in one report.
What is the Taxation Test?
The Taxation Test is built for tax and finance roles. Concept questions cover taxable income, progressive brackets, marginal and effective rates, deductions versus credits, refundable credits and accelerated depreciation. Business tax questions cover sales tax, VAT, payroll taxes, deductible expenses, depreciation, contractor reporting and multi-state sales. Individual tax questions cover W-2 income, withholding, standard and itemized deductions, capital gains, pre-tax contributions and filing extensions. Compliance questions cover deadlines, records, amendments, identity checks, scams and refusing to misreport income. It avoids year-specific thresholds, which change often.
What the Taxation Test does not measure
It does not measure current-year thresholds, state or country-specific rules, or skill with tax software. Check those for your jurisdiction in a recorded interview or a practical exercise.
How does the Taxation Test work?
The Taxation Test is an auto-scored multiple-choice test. Each candidate answers 20 questions drawn at random from a bank of 60, so two candidates rarely see the same set, and most finish in 8 to 12 minutes. The questions are spread evenly across tax concepts, business taxes, individual taxes and compliance and ethics, with a mix of easy, medium and hard items, and the report shows a score for each area as well as an overall score.
Why is the Taxation Test important to employers?
Tax mistakes bring penalties, interest and lost client trust, and pressure to misreport income is real. A preparer who understands brackets and credits, keeps records and refuses to cut corners protects clients and the firm. This test shows who has the grounding and the ethics before tax season starts.
