Everything about the Bookkeeping Test
This test is one part of screening every applicant from one link: add a one-way video interview and resume scoring, and compare candidates in one report.
What is the Bookkeeping Test?
The Bookkeeping Test is built for hiring people who will record transactions and keep ledgers accurate. Questions cover debits and credits for common transactions, the accounting equation, trial balances and correcting entries. Payables and receivables questions include matching invoices to purchase orders, early-payment terms, aging reports, credit notes and controls against duplicate payments. Reconciliation questions work through bank reconciliations with outstanding checks and deposits in transit, petty cash and supplier statements. Period-end questions cover accruals, prepayments, depreciation, cost of goods sold and why periods are locked after month end. Most items use dollar amounts and plain business situations.
What the Bookkeeping Test does not measure
It does not measure local tax rules, payroll law or skill in a specific accounting package. Check those against the jurisdiction and software you use.
How does the Bookkeeping Test work?
The Bookkeeping Test is an auto-scored multiple-choice test. Each candidate answers 20 questions drawn at random from a bank of 60, so two candidates rarely see the same set, and most finish in 8 to 12 minutes. The questions are spread evenly across Double-entry, payables and receivables, reconciliation and Period-end, with a mix of easy, medium and hard items, and the report shows a score for each area as well as an overall score.
Why is the Bookkeeping Test important to employers?
Bookkeeping errors compound. A payment posted to the wrong customer, an unreconciled bank account or a missed accrual can mislead owners, upset suppliers and cost hours of clean-up before the accountant can close the year. This test shows whether a candidate posts correctly, reconciles carefully and follows the controls that protect the business.
