Everything about the Marketing Fundamentals Test
Pair this test with the rest of the first round: springhire's candidate screening software adds a one-way video interview and resume scoring to the same candidate link, ranked in one report.
What is the Marketing Fundamentals Test?
The Marketing Fundamentals Test is built for entry-level and generalist marketing roles. Strategy questions cover segmentation, targeting, positioning, unique selling propositions and the Ansoff matrix. Research questions cover surveys, sampling bias, personas, interviews and reading results carefully. Channel questions cover owned, earned and paid media, calls to action, campaign goals and choosing channels for an audience. Metrics questions cover ROI, conversion rates, customer acquisition cost and why a rise in sales after a campaign may not prove the campaign caused it.
What the Marketing Fundamentals Test does not measure
It does not measure creative or copywriting ability, or hands-on skill in a specific ad platform. Use the Digital Marketing or SEO test for channel skills.
How does the Marketing Fundamentals Test work?
The Marketing Fundamentals Test is an auto-scored multiple-choice test. Each candidate answers 20 questions drawn at random from a bank of 60, so two candidates rarely see the same set, and most finish in 8 to 12 minutes. The questions are spread evenly across strategy and positioning, customer research, channels and campaigns and metrics, with a mix of easy, medium and hard items, and the report shows a score for each area as well as an overall score.
Why is the Marketing Fundamentals Test important to employers?
Marketing hires often know tools but not fundamentals. A marketer who cannot define a target audience or confuses activity with results will spend budget on the wrong things. This test shows who understands the basics that every channel depends on, before you invest in training them on your stack.
