Everything about the Legal Assistant Test
This test is one part of screening every applicant from one link: add a one-way video interview and resume scoring, and compare candidates in one report.
What is the Legal Assistant Test?
The Legal Assistant Test is built for support roles in legal teams. Document and term questions cover affidavits, depositions, subpoenas, discovery, indemnities, boilerplate and the difference between shall and may. Procedure questions cover dockets, service, motions, exhibits, e-filing and calculating deadlines. Ethics questions cover privilege, conflict checks, misdirected emails, legal advice, gifts, social media and backdating. Admin and research questions cover billing in six-minute units, engagement letters, retainers, citators, file retention, proofreading contracts and version control. It is general to common law practice rather than one court's rules.
What the Legal Assistant Test does not measure
It does not measure knowledge of your jurisdiction's specific court rules or your case management system, and it is not a test of legal advice. Check local rules experience in a recorded interview.
How does the Legal Assistant Test work?
The Legal Assistant Test is an auto-scored multiple-choice test. Each candidate answers 20 questions drawn at random from a bank of 60, so two candidates rarely see the same set, and most finish in 8 to 12 minutes. The questions are spread evenly across legal documents and terms, court procedures and deadlines, confidentiality and ethics and legal admin and research, with a mix of easy, medium and hard items, and the report shows a score for each area as well as an overall score.
Why is the Legal Assistant Test important to employers?
In legal work, a missed deadline or a confidentiality slip can harm a client and the firm. An assistant who calculates deadlines carefully, protects privilege and knows not to give legal advice reduces that risk. This test shows who understands the work before they handle real files.
