Everything about the Bank Teller Test
Pair this test with the rest of the first round: springhire's candidate screening software adds a one-way video interview and resume scoring to the same candidate link, ranked in one report.
What is the Bank Teller Test?
The Bank Teller Test is built for hiring tellers and customer service representatives in branches. Questions cover counter math such as totaling a multi-check deposit or making up cash in requested denominations, check basics like endorsements and holds, and service situations such as a customer upset about a blocked card. It also tests fraud and compliance judgment: what to avoid when a transaction looks suspicious, how to treat a call from someone claiming to be head office, and why a teller does not process a relative's transaction. The scenarios are general to retail banking, so they work for banks and credit unions alike.
What the Bank Teller Test does not measure
It does not cover a specific core banking system or local regulations outside the US basics. Train on those after hiring.
How does the Bank Teller Test work?
The Bank Teller Test is an auto-scored multiple-choice test. Each candidate answers 20 questions drawn at random from a bank of 60, so two candidates rarely see the same set, and most finish in 8 to 12 minutes. The questions are spread evenly across cash and transactions, customer service, fraud and compliance and procedures, with a mix of easy, medium and hard items, and the report shows a score for each area as well as an overall score.
Why is the Bank Teller Test important to employers?
Teller errors show up as cash differences, unhappy customers and, worst of all, losses to fraud. A candidate who counts carefully, follows hold and limit rules and recognizes social engineering protects both the customer and the branch. This test shows those habits before a new teller is trusted with a cash drawer.
