Everything about the Content Writer Test
Pair this test with the rest of the first round: springhire's candidate screening software adds a one-way video interview and resume scoring to the same candidate link, ranked in one report.
What is the Content Writer Test?
The Content Writer Test is built for hiring people who write long-form content for websites and brands. Research questions cover primary sources, outdated statistics, conflicting figures, press-release claims and misattributed quotes. Structure questions cover introductions, the inverted pyramid, topic sentences, transitions and answering the reader's question early. Search questions cover intent, keyword stuffing, internal links, anchor text, title tags and updating older pages. Editing questions cover grammar, apostrophes, active voice, ambiguity and cutting a draft down. It does not ask for a writing sample, so it is a fast first filter before a paid trial.
What the Content Writer Test does not measure
It does not measure how a candidate writes a full piece from scratch or in your brand voice. Ask for a short paid writing sample or published work, and discuss it in a recorded interview.
How does the Content Writer Test work?
The Content Writer Test is an auto-scored multiple-choice test. Each candidate answers 20 questions drawn at random from a bank of 60, so two candidates rarely see the same set, and most finish in 8 to 12 minutes. The questions are spread evenly across research and sources, structure and flow, SEO writing and editing and style, with a mix of easy, medium and hard items, and the report shows a score for each area as well as an overall score.
Why is the Content Writer Test important to employers?
Content that is inaccurate, padded or written for search engines instead of readers damages trust and rarely ranks for long. This test shows who checks sources, gets to the point, understands search intent and edits their own work, so your editors spend their time on the candidates worth a writing trial.
