Everything about the Copywriting Test
Pair this test with the rest of the first round: springhire's candidate screening software adds a one-way video interview and resume scoring to the same candidate link, ranked in one report.
What is the Copywriting Test?
The Copywriting Test is built for hiring people who write to persuade. Headline questions cover clarity, specific numbers, benefit-led openings and reading A/B test results honestly. Clarity questions cover active voice, cutting filler, plain words, buttons and parallel structure. Persuasion questions cover features versus benefits, social proof, honest urgency, objections, testimonials, AIDA and PAS, and claims that need evidence. Tone questions cover writing for different audiences, brand voice, global readers, error messages and writing for search without stuffing keywords. Each question asks the candidate to pick the stronger line or the right call.
What the Copywriting Test does not measure
It does not measure how a candidate writes long-form copy from a blank page or in your brand voice. Ask for a short writing sample, or have them talk through a piece of their work in a recorded interview.
How does the Copywriting Test work?
The Copywriting Test is an auto-scored multiple-choice test. Each candidate answers 20 questions drawn at random from a bank of 60, so two candidates rarely see the same set, and most finish in 8 to 12 minutes. The questions are spread evenly across headlines and hooks, clarity and concision, persuasion and benefits and tone and audience, with a mix of easy, medium and hard items, and the report shows a score for each area as well as an overall score.
Why is the Copywriting Test important to employers?
Weak copy wastes media spend and traffic. A copywriter who writes vague headlines, hides the benefit or makes claims the business cannot back up costs conversions and creates risk. This test shows who writes clear, specific, honest copy for the right audience before you commission a paid brief.
