Everything about the Maintenance Technician Test
This test is one part of screening every applicant from one link: add a one-way video interview and resume scoring, and compare candidates in one report.
What is the Maintenance Technician Test?
The Maintenance Technician Test is built for multi-skill maintenance roles. Electrical questions cover Ohm's law, series and parallel resistance, power, multimeters, breakers, GFCIs, contactors, PLCs and proving circuits dead. Mechanical questions cover bearings, belts, gears, alignment, hydraulics, pneumatics, pumps and valves. Troubleshooting questions cover structured fault finding, repeat failures, intermittent faults, error codes and checking a repair. Safety and practice questions cover lockout/tagout, stored energy, arc flash, confined spaces, preventive and predictive maintenance and work orders. The questions are general to industrial and facilities maintenance, so they suit most plants and buildings.
What the Maintenance Technician Test does not measure
It does not certify electrical licenses or measure hands-on repair skill. Confirm licenses and add a practical task for senior roles.
How does the Maintenance Technician Test work?
The Maintenance Technician Test is an auto-scored multiple-choice test. Each candidate answers 20 questions drawn at random from a bank of 60, so two candidates rarely see the same set, and most finish in 8 to 12 minutes. The questions are spread evenly across electrical basics, mechanical systems, troubleshooting and safety and practice, with a mix of easy, medium and hard items, and the report shows a score for each area as well as an overall score.
Why is the Maintenance Technician Test important to employers?
A technician who swaps parts without diagnosis wastes money, and one who skips lockout can be killed. Strong technicians find root causes, record their work and stay safe under pressure from production. This test shows who has the technical base and the safety habits before you put them on your equipment.
